Knowledge Of Powerful Batteries

January 09,2023
Lithium-ion battery (Lithium-ion battery) is a rechargeable battery that mainly relies on lithium ions to move between the positive and negative electrodes to work. Li-ion batteries use an intercalated lithium compound as an electrode material. At present, the main positive electrode materials used for lithium-ion batteries are: lithium cobalt oxide (LiCoO2), lithium manganate (LiMn2O4), lithium nickelate (LiNiO2) and lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4).
These lithium-ion batteries and their derivatives are common in consumer electronics. They are one of the most common types of rechargeable batteries in portable electronic devices, featuring high energy density, no memory effect, and only slow charge loss when not in use. In addition to consumer electronics, more and more advanced lithium-ion batteries are becoming more and more popular and can be used in military, pure electric vehicles and aerospace.
Type: Now common cylindrical lithium-ion battery specifications are 26650 / 21700 / 18650 / 17670 / 18500 / 18350 / 17500/16340/14500/10440, the first two digits indicate the battery diameter (unit: mm), the third, the second The four digits represent the length of the battery (unit: mm), and the fifth digit represents the appearance of the battery (0: indicates that the appearance of the battery is cylindrical). Taking the 18650 battery as an example, its diameter is 18 mm, its length is 65 mm, and its appearance is Cylindrical. The size of the 14500 battery is close to that of an AA battery (Taiwan AA battery, China AA battery), and the 10440 battery is close to that of an AAA battery (Taiwan AA battery, China AA battery). In addition, the shape of the positive electrode of the battery is also divided into flat head and pointed head. The full length of the flat head battery is the standard size, while the full length of the pointed head needs to be increased by about 0.5 mm.
advantage:
high energy density
High open circuit voltage
High output power
no memory effect
low self-discharge
Wide operating temperature range
Fast charging and discharging
shortcoming:
intolerance to overdischarge
intolerance to overcharging
Aging is afraid of heat
Recovery rate
Multiple protection mechanisms are required
